Medical Professions has a powerful group of counselors, social workers and diagnostics to support our students daily.

They invest their time in seeing that our students excel in-and-out of the classroom, by providing mentoring opportunities, and seeing through that students are getting the academic assistance needed to tackle STISD's challenging course curriculum.

Not only do they provide social and personal guidance, but they see through that students are not only accepted into a college or university of their choosing, but are prepared to lead at the collegiate level and in their future careers once they graduate from one of our four high schools.

Texas First Diploma One-Pager THECB August 2022

Senate Bill 1888, 87th Texas Legislature, Regular Session, 2021, added Texas Education Code §28.0253, which establishes the Texas First Early High School Completion Program to allow public high school students who demonstrate early readiness for college to graduate early from high school. The purpose of the Program, in conjunction with the Texas First Scholarship Program, is to promote efficiency in the state public education system and incentivize the enrollment of high performing students at eligible institutions within the state of Texas.

Eligibility: Applicant is a legal resident of U.S., at least 16 years of age and no older than 26 years. If an applicant is a minor in his/her/their state of residence, they must receive parental consent from his/her/their parent/legal guardian to apply. Must be on-track to apply for or enrolled in an accredited post-high school/post-secondary educational program (including accredited two-and four-year colleges, universities, vocational-technical and trade schools). Must be willing to work with the Taco Bell Foundation’s Scholarship Management Company throughout the application and award process. No grades, test scores, or essays. GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program

Description: Honoring the legacy and character of our nation’s 40th President, the GE-Reagan Foundation Scholarship Program rewards college-bound students who demonstrate exemplary leadership, drive, integrity, and citizenship with financial assistance to pursue higher education.
Eligibility: Demonstrate the attributes of leadership, integrity, drive, and citizenship within their communities, schools, and workplaces. Display strong academic performance (minimum 3.0 grade point average/4.0 scale or equivalent). Be citizens of the United States of America. Be current high school seniors attending high school within the United States, (including any U.S. territories or commonwealths), and graduating in winter 2024 or spring 2025. Homeschooled applicants and applicants living on a U.S. Armed Forces base and attending high school outside the U.S. are eligible. Plan to enroll in a full time undergraduate course of study at an accredited four year college or university in the United States for the entire 2025-2026 academic school year.

APIA Scholarship Program

Description: The APIA Scholarship is our largest scholarship program, open to AANHPI undergraduate students attending any U.S. accredited university or college. Scholarship amounts range from $2,500 one-year awards to $20,000 multi-year awards. APIA Scholars has a special focus on supporting AANHPI students who live at or below the poverty line; are in the first generation of their family to attend college; are representative of the APIA community’s diversity, (geographically and ethnically}, especially those ethnicities that have been underrepresented on college campuses due to limited access and opportunity. Strong applicants would also have an emphasis on community service and leadership.
Eligibility: Be able to describe your ethnicity, heritage, or ancestry in relation to the countries, territories, or lands in Asia or the Pacific Islands. Be a citizen, national, or legal permanent resident of the United States. Citizens of the Republic of the Marshall Islands, Federated States of Micronesia and the Republic of Palau are also eligible to apply. Be enrolling or continuing as a degree-seeking undergraduate student in a U.S. accredited college or university in Fall 2025.

The Jackie Robinson Foundation Scholarship

Description: The Jackie Robinson Foundation (JRF) perpetuates the memory of Jackie Robinson by providing generous four-year scholarships and comprehensive support services to highly motivated college students with financial needs to ensure their success and further develop their leadership potential.
Eligibility: Be a graduating, minority high school senior. Be a United States citizen. Present evidence of financial need. Demonstrate a record of academic excellence. National Washington Crossing Foundation Scholarship

Description: The Trustees and Members of the Foundation, mindful of the significance of the important event in our nation’s history that occurred at Washington Crossing, Pennsylvania, and New Jersey, believe that if our country is to continue to progress, we must have thoroughly trained, dedicated young people to carry on our government’s work in future years.
Eligibility: Competition open to all high school senior who are U.S. citizens and are planning careers of service to the United States in local, state, or federal government. All awards are for one year.
Amount: We award a variety of scholarships every year. Each scholarship will be paid, as long as the student meets the requirements of the college chosen. DAR Scholarship

Description: Each year the National Society Daughters of the American Revolution (DAR) awards multiple scholarships to students showing dedication to the pursuit of higher education in diverse areas of study including history, economics, law, political science, medicine, nursing, occupational and physical therapy, elementary and secondary education, chemistry, math, science and English.
Eligibility: Applicants must be citizens of the United States. Must attend or plan to attend an accredited college or university in the United States. All multi-year scholarships, typically renewable up to four years, must be for consecutive years of attendance. Awards are based on academic excellence, commitment to the field of study, and/or financial need, or other restrictions on specific scholarships. Awards are placed on deposit with the recipient’s college or university and any unused portion shall be returned to the DAR. Applicants are only eligible to receive one scholarship from the DAR.

Texas Student Housing Scholarship

Description: This scholarship is open to students accepted to colleges in College Station or Denton, Texas, that have NOT signed off-campus housing leases.

Description: The Carr P. Collins Scholars Program was established in 1993 to recognize academically gifted students who are dedicated to helping others in an effort to develop leaders of tomorrow through the gift of higher education.
Eligibility: Be admitted to Baylor, top 25% of graduating class, combined Math/EBRW minimum score of 1310 on SAT or 28 on ACT, completed a balanced college prep program including history, science & foreign language, be an established resident of the state of Texas. *Applicants who elect test-optional admission for the 2025-2026 academic year will be considered eligible to apply if they demonstrate academic success within a challenging curriculum as determined through the admission review process.

H-E-B/UIL Scholarship Application

Description: For the seventh consecutive year, H-E-B will award 15 high school seniors who participate in UIL competitions with a $2,000 scholarship in recognition of their community service and involvement in their communities. Five students who competed in athletics, five students who competed in music, and five more students who competed in academic events were selected from the pool of applicants from across the state. H-E-B will award each selected student with a $2,000 scholarship toward their college/university of choice. Recipients will be spotlighted during the 2024 UIL Texas Girls & Boys Basketball State Championships.
Eligibility: Must be a current Texas high school senior graduating in 2025 with a minimum 3.3 GPA, have participated in a UIL competition as a high school student and have been active in community service programs or events.

McDonald’s HACER National Scholarship

Descrition: Since 1985 the McDonald’s HACER National Scholarship Program has awarded more than $33 million in scholarship funds to over 17,000 Hispanic and Latino students. The McDonald's HACER® National Scholarship Program offers scholarships to up to 30 outstanding students from all over the country. It continues to provide educational opportunities to help narrow the gap that exists for Hispanic and Latino college-bound students, further reinforcing McDonald’s long-standing commitment to feeding and fostering the diverse communities it serves.
Eligibility: high school senior, legal U.S. resident, under 21 years of age, minimum GPA of 2.8, attend a two- or four-year institution full time, disclose other scholarships, enroll & attend accredited institution, one parent of Hispanic heritage.

Hispanic Scholarship Fund Scholarship

Description: This could be the opportunity of a lifetime! The HSF Scholarship is designed to assist students of Hispanic heritage obtain a university degree. Latino History Essay Competition

Description: Founded in 2011 by the Division of Diversity and Community Engagement at UT-Austin, the Latino History Essay Competition has found a new home with UIL Academics beginning with the 2012-2013 school year. In its initial year the competition was open to students in South Texas; beginning with 2012-2013 the competition was opened to students statewide. Competition theme - Historical and cultural legacies of Latinos in Texas history. Essays should focus on a prominent or relatively unknown Latino individual, organization or movement in Texas history. How has the subject of the essay positively and significantly influenced today's Latino communities?

Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Competition

Description: Founded in 1995 as an event sponsored by The University of Texas at Austin, the Barbara Jordan Historical Essay Competition moved to its new home with UIL Academics in 2011-2012. The competition provides students an opportunity to explore the contributions of African Americans to Texas history, as well as honoring the legacy of its namesake, Barbara Jordan. Competition Theme - African Americans in Texas: Past and Present. Essays should focus on individuals or groups who are not well-known figures but who have made positive, significant contributions to African American history or culture in Texas. Students should look first to their local communities for possible essay topics.

HSF/VAMOS Scholarship

Description: The Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities Scholarship (VAMOS) Scholarship program supports exceptional graduating high school seniors from the Rio Grande Valley in Texas. Students must identify as Hispanic and must be Pell Grant recipients.
Eligibility: Must be Pell-eligible. Plan to enroll full-time in an accredited, public or not-for-profit, four-year university during the fall of the scholarship cycle. Be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident. High school graduating seniors only - Cumulative GPA of 2.70, based on a 4.00 scale (or equivalent) earned from 9th through the first semester/term of 12th grade. High school students must be graduating seniors in the Rio Grande Valley (Texas), specifically Hidalgo, Cameron, and Starr counties. Must be of Hispanic heritage.
Amount: Selected students attending the University of Texas at Rio Grande Valley will receive $3,000 per year, for four years ($12,000 total). All other selected students attending other institutions will receive $5,000 per year, for four years ($20,000 total).

VAMOS/UTRGV Scholarship

Description: The UTRGV Foundation and the Valley Alliance of Mentors for Opportunities and Scholarships (VAMOS) have partnered to create the VAMOS/UTRGV Endowed Scholarship Program.
Eligibility: Be a U.S. citizen or eligible non-citizen. Be Pell Eligible. Graduates from a high school in Hidalgo, Cameron or Star County. To be considered, students must be admitted to UTRGV and have submitted a FAFSA application by February 15th.

The DREAM.US National Scholarship Program

Description: The National Scholarship is the “Pell Grant” for highly motivated DREAMers with significant, unmet financial need. While your GPA and test scores are considered, great emphasis is placed on your demonstrated commitment to community service and your ability to overcome the barriers and challenges that DREAMers face each and every day.
Eligibility: graduate in 2024-2025, GPA of 2.5 or better, intend to enroll fulltime in 2yr/4yr partner college, current DACA or TPS or certify DACA eligibility, significant unmet financial need.
Amount: up to $16,500 for an Associate’s/ $33,000 for a Bachelor’s Scholars may be eligible for an additional stipend of $4,000 ($1000 per year) for books, supplies, or transportation.

CDA Scholarship

Description: The Catholic Daughters of the Americas (CDA) was formed in 1903 and is one of the oldest and largest organizations of Catholic women in the Americas. Current membership is estimated at 63,000 members, 1,150 courts (local chapters) in 45 states across the USA and in Puerto Rico, Mexico, Guam, the Virgin Islands, Kenya and Peru. Court Lydia Miller #2187 supports the four local catholic churches and their communities: Immaculate Heart of Mary, Our Lady of the Assumption, Queen of Peace, and St. Anthony. Most of the CDA Court #2187 members belong to these parishes, however charitable initiatives include organizations outside the local area. This court also includes a Junior Catholic Daughters of the Americas group. Members are young ladies between the ages of 8 to 18. We are happy to support graduating high school seniors who are pursuing higher education at an accredited college or university.
Eligibility: The Catholic Daughters offer four scholarships. The applications are located within the Education, Youth, JCDA and Campus Courts sections. Please view website for the different scholarships.

STARS Scholarship Fund

Description: The Stars Scholarship Fund awards scholarships to qualified students from the community annually. Recipients are selected on the basis of scholarship, academic achievement and financial need through a general application process. Academic achievement is determined using applicant's official academic records. Financial need is determined in evaluating the applicant's submitted FAFSA documentation. The goal of our organization is to assist students who do not receive enough or any federal aid to cover the Cost of Attendance at their institution. Stars Scholarship Fund strives to ensure that deserving individuals are not denied the opportunities for learning and discovery that are available in a university setting.
Eligibility: Be a U.S. citizen or a legal permanent resident with a permanent resident card or passport stamped I-551. Be a permanent resident (5 or more consecutive years) of and have a permanent South or West Texas address in one of our 30 counties. Have earned/completed at least 12 undergraduate credit hours at a U.S. accredited college or university before applying for the scholarship (Dual and Advanced Placement credits accepted.). Have a minimum college cumulative grade point average (GPA) of 2.7 on a 4.0 scale. Have completed a high school diploma or its equivalent prior to the Fall of the new academic year. Are enrolled in a U.S. accredited 2 yr. community college (enrolled part-time or full-time) in a degree-seeking program, or a 4yr. university undergraduate program (enrolled full-time) seeking a Bachelor’s Degree, or a university graduate program (enrolled full-time) seeking a Master’s, Law or Doctorate degree.

Marine Corp Scholarship Foundation

Description: The Marine Corps Scholarship Foundation awards need-based scholarships to the children of Marines attending accredited colleges, community colleges, and career technical education programs. It’s the nation’s oldest and largest provider of need-based scholarships to military families, and its mission is to offer scholarship support to every eligible child of a Marine
Eligibility: Child or step-child of one of the following: Active duty, Reserve, or veteran* U.S. Marine, A Marine killed while serving in the U.S. Marine Corps, Active duty, reserve, or veteran U.S. Navy Corpsman, Navy Chaplain or Religious Program Specialist who is or was attached to a U.S. Marine Corps unit or who was killed while serving with a U.S. Marine Corps unit*. Minimum 2.00 GPA. Demonstrate financial need through a family adjusted gross income of $123,000 or less for the 2023 tax year. Attending or planning to attend an accredited school that is eligible for federal funding. Submit a completed application with all required documents by the deadline. *Veterans must have received an honorable discharge.
Amount: $2,500, $5,000, $7,500, or $10,000 per academic year. Award amounts are based on factors including financial need, GPA, and available funding. Amounts are not guaranteed from year to year, and renewal applicants may be awarded different amounts in subsequent years.

Society of Exploration Geophysicists Scholarships

Description: SEG Scholarships encourage the study of geophysics and related geosciences in universities around the world. Thanks to the generosity of our donors, the SEG offers a range of different scholarship opportunities to students all over the globe.

Shell Scholarship

Description: The Shell Company Technical Scholarship and Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship have been created to provide financial and career assistance to graduating high school seniors who have expressed an interest in the energy industry and demonstrated an aptitude in mathematics and science. These scholarship programs support Shell’s objective of helping to ensure a qualified workforce in engineering and geosciences disciplines in future years. Workforce development is one of the highest priorities at Shell. Competition for talent is growing and Shell will be at the forefront in identifying young people with the skills to succeed by assisting with scholarships and providing exposure to career opportunities at the company.
Eligibility: : Plan to enroll full-time in one of the following majors (geology, geophysics, physics, chemical, civil, electrical, geological, geophysical, mechanical or petroleum engineering) at a specified institution. Be lawfully authorized to work on a full-time basis in the United States without any form of sponsorship.
Amount: In each program, Shell will sponsor up to 20 one-year awards of $2,500 for selected graduating high school seniors enrolling in engineering or geosciences at universities identified by Shell.

VAMOS Traditional Scholarship

Description: This scholarship is based on a student’s overall commitment to pursuing a post-secondary education in a technical, certificate, associates or undergraduate program from an accredited college or university.

Description: Neighbors in Need of Services, Inc. Head Start/Early Head Start Program is currently accepting scholarship applications to award twelve (12) scholarships of $1,200 each. These scholarships will be offered to nine (9) former students and three (3) current/former parents of the Head Start/Early Head Start Program in Cameron and Willacy counties. Head Start/Early Head Start parents, staff, and community volunteers raise the funds for the scholarships.
Eligibility: Must be a former or current parent of the NINOS, Inc. Head Start/Early Head Start Program for at least one school year. Must be a former student of the NINOS, Inc. Head Start/Early Head Start Program for at least one school year. Must meet NINOS, Inc. Scholarship Income Guidelines. Must submit all information requested on the application. Incomplete applications will not be valid. Must be a resident of the NINOS, Inc. service area in Cameron or Willacy Counties. Can only receive two NINOS, Inc. scholarship awards while enrolled in college. Be required to provide their date of birth, last four digits of Social Security Number or I-10 number (if applicable). Mary “Sippy” Burnett Nursing Scholarship

Description: The Shell Company Technical Scholarship and Shell Incentive Fund Scholarship have been created to provide financial and career assistance to graduating high school seniors who have expressed an interest in the energy industry and demonstrated an aptitude in mathematics and science. These scholarship programs support Shell’s objective of helping to ensure a qualified workforce in engineering and geosciences disciplines in future years. Workforce development is one of the highest priorities at Shell. Competition for talent is growing and Shell will be at the forefront in identifying young people with the skills to succeed by assisting with scholarships and providing exposure to career opportunities at the company.
Eligibility: Must be pursuing a degree in the NURSING FIELD as a LVN or RN. The Hospital District must be informed of the student’s name, eligibility determination factors (why this student was selected), the name of the school the student plans to attend and specify “nursing or nursing field” as the student’s chosen course of study. The Hospital District must be given proper recognition for the granting of the scholarship. The student must provide proof of enrollment and acceptance by the selected school’s Nursing Program Department chair or head. The verification may either be mailed or personally delivered to the Willacy County Hospital District Office.
