Undefeated Mighty Rockets Flag Football Team Statebound

The Mighty Rockets flag football team at STISD Rising Scholars Academy in San Benito will continue its historic season as it advances, undefeated, to the Texas Charter School Academic and Athletic League (TCSAAL) state championship this weekend.

Rising Scholars kicked off flag football in 2015, the year during which the campus was established. This is the fifth year the school has participated in the sport, as the pandemic led to the cancelation of the last season.

In this return season, the team successfully defeated all six opponents in the regular season games, as well as three in post-season games and one in a non-division game within the district, securing a 10-0 overall record for the season thus far. The following are some of the team statistics and highlights from this year (so far):

•           Most Touchdown Passes in a Season: 32*

•           Most Rushing Touchdowns in a Season: 10*

•           Most Team Interceptions for Touchdowns in a Season: 12*

•           Most Points in a Game: 88*

•           Most Points in a Season: 384*

•           Lowest Points Allowed in a Season: 39*

•           Defeated 2 undefeated teams in the playoffs (Idea Mission & Idea Weslaco)

•           Superintendent’s Cup Champions

Rising Scholars will host a team send-off celebration at 8:45 a.m. on Friday, Nov. 12, to celebrate the team’s success and wish the players well as they board the bus for Wimberley that morning.
